Попробуй установить более свежую версию не из исходников. А как пакет.

PostgreSQL 8.4 ставится из образа cd
С ним всё хорошо но не комилится файлы ,а что он требует я так и не допёр мля за 17 часов,я скоро из ноутбука сделаю планшет
